Over 700 kindred spirits with one goal – to make a difference - joined together for the Walk for Values USA - Phoenix on February 27, 2010 in downtown Phoenix, AZ. The walkers representing various walks of life from Arizona as well as from Colorado, New Mexico, California and Utah proudly expressed their desire to infuse their community with the messages of love, peace, right-conduct, nonviolence and truth. Participants were welcomed to the event with music by the Mallet Masters from Brisas Elementary School, an array of colorful balloons, face painting for children and adults, and warm greetings from the registration volunteers. T-shirts and caps depicting the five human values were provided to all participants. Opening ceremonies included a rousing and heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. The master of ceremonies made sure the crowd was motivated and kept the program on schedule. The featured speaker was the Vice-Mayor of the City of Phoenix, Michael Nowakowski, who also presented a proclamation from the Mayor declaring February 27 as Walk for Values Day. Honored guests and speakers also included Margaret Garcia Dugan, Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Ray Madaghiele, CEO and Co-founder of the Transformational Learning Center.
The Walk proceeded from Wesley-Bolin Plaza through the streets of downtown Phoenix and ended back at the Plaza. The closing ceremony included all of the children being invited to the stage to join in singing God Bless America. Also, an outstanding musical group performed as a light lunch was served for all to enjoy. To see pictures from the Walk, please click here!
